Rethinking the UMC in the Philippines (a reflection from the PCC Interagency Summit)

IN A seminar-meeting I attended early in 2011, I was surprised to see the UMC emblem printed on the liturgy cover of Siliman University’s Cathedral (United Church of Christ in the Philippines). Curious, I asked the pastor after the Worship Service. He said that the person responsible for making the liturgy was tasked to find a beautiful image of Jesus’ cross and when she searched it on Google Images, she found the emblem the most remarkable one!

The United Methodist Church
Philippine Central Conference
The National United Methodist Youth Fellowship in the Philippines

“We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world. So put on all the armor that God gives…Never stop praying, especially for others. Always pray by the power of the Spirit. Stay alert and keep praying for God’s people.” Ephesians 6: 12-13b; 18

INTRODUCTION

Greetings in the name of our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

A new biennium of fellowship and service has started to lift God’s name through the ministry of the young people all over the Philippines. In the same way, new challenges await us as we strive to expand God’s territory among His people. I praise God for this refreshing opportunity to serve and to fully surrender our lives for His glory.

GOD’S A-TEAM

The 31st National Youth Conference (NYC) held in Davao City on April 19-24, 2010 elected eight leaders to be the Fellowship’s officers for the biennium 2010-2012. NYC has also approved one YC.

ACTION PLAN

(see below)

RECOMMENDATION

1. To elect NUMYFP department heads
2. To require all UMYFP officers from the National down to the Local Chapters to submit membership list on or before CI 2010
3. To require all AC to submit articles (any genre) to Pananaw staff right after CI
4. To set exact date for NUMYFP Sunday
5. To reaffirm the UMYFP solidarity and unity

CONCLUSION

As we strive to perform our tasks in the Fellowship and aiming to make a mark during our term, let us not and never forget the Supreme Being that we serve alone. It is through Him that we are here, so it is right to bring back everything to Him.

We in the National UMYFP pray and continue to reach out to our brothers and sisters in the local chapter; that our programs will not only impact the annual or the districts but also those individual UMYFs who compose our Fellowship. We want to be visible to all UMYFs as much as possible and create programs that would bring greater good to all. We salute our forerunners for leaving a legacy worth to be continued. Our number may be less (officers) but we hope that somehow, someone or some people will be touched by God’s calling to take a stand and join us in the national level. Our tasks are many, but with your hand and with God alongside, we know that we can accomplish beyond what is expected of us.

Let us press on for the race is not yet over. As leaders and individuals, we pray that the Spirit of God will pour out more of His blessings to the young people through our lives.

“The hand of God is upon all those for good who seek Him.” Ezra 8:22

Christ above all!
